Developmental and Mental Health Assessment

In BC, these assessments for children and teens are typically completed by Child & Adolescent Psychiatrists, especially when the goal is to understand the overlap between neurological, developmental, and mental health factors. It helps families understand how their child’s thinking, emotions, and behaviour work together. It looks at the whole picture so you can get clear answers and a plan that supports your child at home, at school, and in daily life.

It covers:

  • Mental health symptoms (anxiety, mood, OCD, ADHD, etc.)

  • Behaviour patterns

  • Developmental history

  • Cognitive and executive functioning

  • Social and communication skills

  • How all factors fit together to guide diagnosis and treatment

The Mental Health Assessment includes a comprehensive written report outlining the results and personalized recommendations.

Comprehensive Reports

Dr. Chan will write personalized and thorough consult reports for each family.

The consult reports provide a clear summary of your child’s developmental profile by integrating history, caregiver and school input, standardized testing, and direct clinical observations. It explains your child’s strengths, areas of need, and the factors contributing to their presentation. If your child meets criteria for Autism Spectrum Disorder, the report outlines the diagnosis, any related features, and implications for daily functioning and support services. If ASD is not indicated, the report clarifies why and identifies other developmental or emotional factors that may better explain your child’s challenges. In all cases, you receive individualized, evidence‑informed recommendations for home, school, and community settings to guide next steps and support your child’s ongoing development.

Disability Tax Credit Form

The Disability Tax Credit (DTC) form in BC, officially called the T2201, is a federal application used to certify that an individual has a severe and prolonged impairment, allowing them to claim a non‑refundable tax credit to reduce income tax. Once approved, eligibility for the DTC can also open access to other financial supports such as the Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP), Child Disability Benefit, and Canada Workers Benefit.

Previous Diagnosis Confirmation

Dr. Chan reviews previous Autism diagnosis reports and meets with your family (in person) to assess recertification of the diagnosis.

This service connects families with trusted community resources, guiding them through each step of their child’s mental health journey. By offering practical tools; and community support, it helps parents feel empowered and less alone in accessing the care their child needs.
